Memories and Photos submitted by Ron Hall
Hi Monty and Jimmy,
This is Ron Hall. I was a '68 grad and am good friends with Judd Childress, Mickey McCune, Wes Phillips. Judd had told me that you may want copies of my two books I've written on Memphis Garage Bands "Playing For A Piece Of The Door: A History of Memphis Area Garage and Frat Bands and "The Memphis Garage Rock Yearbook." The Yearbook is appropriate, as it is green with gold lettering!

I've also produced two CD's with 15 tracks each of the Memphis bands we grew up with, including the Los Angeles Smog Division, Chasers, Village Sound, Castels, etc. I'll gladly donate a copy of each if you need them.

I have attached a photo of John Stetz with his second band "Snake."
You'll recognize Kenny Allen in the photo as well. This band cut an album at Beautiful Sounds that was never released. I'm proud to have a CD of those tapes.

John was a classic. He went from setting behind me in economics whispering he had learned "I'M A Man: by the Yardbirds to in two years being one of the best blues harp players in the city. I still miss him and visit his grave whenever I happen to be at Memorial Park.

Also, in a separate e-mail I'll attach a picture of a band Jerry Hicks was in "Something Wild," with Mike Gardner, Danny Schader and Jimmy Deese. I hope this helps, and if you want the other stuff let me know who to get it to.

I may even bring some extra copies at a big discount and have in my car in case some of the out-of-towners want a copy. Several Frayser groups are featured from the Strayfers to the Gypsies. I'm bringing my copy to get all the band guys to sign.
