Gerald Harding Jr
I remember the first year that I attended Frayser. Everyone seemed to know each other from years of going to school together. I had just moved to Memphis from Aurora, Illinois and still had my "Yankee Twang". I really didn't know anyone since we had only been in our new house about a month when school started back.

The first time I really got "close" to anyone, it was in Gym class and Jerry seemed to think that I got a little too close while we were playing basketball. He wanted to fight after school. I was in Band and when the band teacher heard about the fight, he kept the entire band late in practice. After he let us out, I ran to the field behind the elementary school, but everyone was gone.

The next day when gym class came around, it was decided that after class in the locker room, the fight was on!....... I think that both of us were a little scared that day. There wasn't but just a few punches thrown that day. I wound up with a broken hand and a really good friend after that "fight". I will also say that it didn't take me long to stop saying "you guys" and start saying "ya'll"

Jerry I have often thought of you over the years....... YOU ARE MISSED! ---Dennis Lewis

Jerry and I were good pals. We did lots of things I wouldn't dare post on the internet now. But he was a good friend to me, and I always admired him.We had a few close calls, and I guess he finally cut one a bit too close. One of the funniest things I'll always remember about Jerry is something that happened in the men's room at a basketball game one night. He, I, and Bob Lacher, were finishing up our business and Jerry zipped up and was heading out the door. Bob admonished Jerry, "Didn't your mother teach you to wash after using the bathroom?" Jerry answered,

"My mother taught me not to pee on myself." That was Jerry. :)

God Bless you, my friend. I love you. Randy Byrd

I'll never forget all the times we cut class to go watch Let's Make A Deal at your house and drink a Budwieser.
